Dog Licenses
In accordance with Chapter 13, Title 4, of the General Laws of Rhode Island 1956, as amended, “Every owner or keeper of a dog shall annually in the month of April cause such dog to be licensed.”

Renewal Licenses
- Though your dog license(s) will expire on April 30 each year, you have until June 1 each year to renew your dog license.
- Failure to renew your dog license(s) by June 1 each year will result in a $25.00 late fee charge per dog license.
- If your dog is no longer with you, or has passed away, please accept our condolences and notify the Town Clerk's Office, (401) 294-3891, Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Obtain a license (new or renewal) in one of the following ways:
- Online - Click here ($1 fee plus $0.64 postage)
- In person at the Town Clerk's Office.
- In person at the Exeter Animal Shelter.
- Through the mail or drop-box:
- Send a check made payable to the "Town of Exeter" $6.00 per dog
- Include a copy of proof of current rabies vaccination
- Delivery preference:
- If you want your new tags mailed to you, include a self-addressed stamped envelope
- If you want to be notified when your tags are ready for pickup, provide a contact phone number
