Code of Conduct

Exeter Public Library is dedicated to protecting the rights and safety of all persons on library premises, as well as the optimal condition and working order of library facilities and resources. We seek to provide effective, equitable access to collections and services in an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, each person is expected to respect the rights of others and observe the following code of conduct when on library premises.
 

Please Do

  • Make use of the library space and library resources
  • Engage in individual or group activities that do not disturb others
  • Hold conversations at a low to moderate volume
  • Treat others with courtesy and respect
  • Ask library staff for assistance or if you have any questions
  • Expect prompt, effective, and courteous service
  • Make recommendations for improving the library for yourself and others
     

Please Do Not

  • Engage in activities that disturb others or prevent them from using the library to the fullest
  • Be rude to or harass others, including library staff
  • Enter the library under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Enter the library without wearing a shirt or shoes
  • Sell, solicit, panhandle or loiter on library premises
  • Access or view obscene or inappropriate materials on library premises
     

Serious Behavioral Infractions

Serious behavioral infractions, including but not limited to the following, will result in an immediate ban from library premises, for a duration to be determined based on the nature and frequency of the offense.

  • Committing a crime again local, state, or federal law
  • Assaulting someone or engaging in physical altercations
  • Threatening a patron or staff
  • Damaging or vandalizing library property
  • Engaging in sexual misconduct, including unwanted or inappropriate touching, advances, indecent exposure, and other lewd and lascivious acts
