Books & Other Media

Exeter Public Library welcomes donations of books and media for use in our ongoing book sale or for addition to our collection. We will accept up to two boxes at a time of materials in excellent or as-new condition only. Due to lack of storage space, we regretfully cannot accept items other than what can immediately be used.

All donations become the property of the library and cannot be returned. We will provide a donation receipt for tax purposes upon request. However, federal regulations prohibit us from giving estimates of the monetary value of donated items. Guidance for estimating and reporting the value of donations can be found on the IRS website.

The Library cannot pick up donations. Please bring donations to the front desk during open hours. Please do not put donations into the book return or leave them outside the building. Thank you.

Accepted

  • Hardcover and trade (regular size) paperback books in excellent or as-new condition
  • Music CDs in original cases
  • Movies and TV shows in original DVD or Blu-Ray cases
  • Unabridged audiobooks in original packaging

Not accepted

  • Items in less than excellent or as-new condition, including books with markings, stains, water damage, etc.
  • Mass Market (small) paperback books
  • Dictionaries and encyclopedias
  • Textbooks, workbooks, notebooks, manuals, etc.
  • Outdated works of information
  • Abridged, condensed, or summarized works
  • Computer games or software
  • Vinyl record albums
  • VHS and other cassette tapes
  • Magazines or newspapers
  • Puzzles, games, and toys
     

Monetary Donations

Exeter Public Library welcomes and encourages monetary donations to help support our collections. Donations can be made in person or by mail, via checks, cash, or credit card. We appreciate donations of any value. As with other donations, monetary donations become the property of the library and cannot be returned. An acknowledgement letter or donation receipt will be provided upon request.
 

Other Donations

Donations of other items, such as art, furniture, etc., will be considered and accepted with approval by the Library Board of Trustees. Please address inquiries regarding such donations to the Library Director.
